I was wondering how to make my stair treads longer right now they are only about 7 or 8 inches and my foot will not fit on them I have already had someone fall down them due being so small I was wanting to get they to about 10 inches or so without ripping everything out and starting from scratch

It is impossible to extend the tread out 2 inches for each tread without making the landing abour 2 foot further out than it is now.

I am sending this site, maybe it will help you figure it out.

How do I figure out stair treads and risers? (http://www.new-england-contractor.com/news/ask_a_contractor/how_do_i_figure_out_stair_treads_and_risers.htm)

In order to increase each step by 2 inches, u would have to start at bottom with a platform.

U would have to make the platform the number of steps times 2. If this is a normal flight of stairs this would be 12 X 2 or 24 inches
The next step would be 22 inches.

For looks and cost I would think it would be cheaper to buy new unit.

Good luck
