My dog ate a few pork chop bones, what food can I give her to be safe until it leaves her system?

Were these bones cooked? Any chance of splintering? If so you should be feeding your dog cotton balls soaked in milk, or bread.. it will help cushion splinters that may perforate her stomach.

Yes they were cooked pork chop bones that had been eaten from dinner. They were up on the counter and the dog stood up and snatched them and ate them. It's been about 12 hours now and she has shown no signs of distress or lethargy. We gave her half a can of soft dog food. About a year ago she snatched and ate a whole cooked chicken that was ready for dinner. We did take her to the Vet for that one. We had heard of the cotton ball treatment and suggested it to the Vet but he advised against it. The dog made it through that chicken caper thank goodness and we hope she will make it through this pork chop bone situation. Thank you so much for your answer and concern, we're keeping an eye on her and looking to her canine ancestor's history of living through bone digestion, albeit not always cooked, for some relief until a reasonable amount of time passes with or without incident.

Yep just keep an eye on her, those things are notorious for causing obstructions and/or perforations. If you notice a lack of bowel movements, or anything like nausea and diarrhea, or a hunched appearance, call your vet right away.

So far so good. She had a good poop this morning and ate the other half of the can of soft dog food. Thank you for your thoughts!
