Why do I feel the need to cut myself? It seems like I can handle physical pain much better than emotional (that's what I ell myself at least). Every time I start to cry is when I hold back the tears, and get out the razor... It almost feels like my body is crying for me, I'm not suicidal or anything. I just don't know how to handle stress I suppose. Somebody please explain this to me... Thank you

It releases anxiety and gives you a feeling of control over something.

Studies have shown that people who self harm are more anxious and have lower self esteem, self harming is used as a coping behaviour to deal with other issues going on in their lives.
As wonder girl has stated, its having control,at least over something.
The biggest physical risk with self harming is the potential for infection.
Asking for help is the first step to overcoming self harming, look for help from a parent,or teacher.
You don't say where you are,but here is a web site...
www.childline.org.uk (http://www.childline.org.uk)
There is a special line for teenagers who self harm.

I agree with the experts. Here is another link you might find helpful and interesting:
Self-Mutilation ? Control Issues in Teens (http://www.aboutstressmanagement.com/stressrelief/stress-management/people-and-stress/self-mutilation-control-issues-in-teens.htm)
You can learn better ways to handle your stress. Self harm may not be a suicide attempt, but there is always the risk of infection or hurting yourself worse than you planned.

By keeping the emotion buried, you have to have the release that comes along with self mutilation.Learning proper coping skills would be a good step to end this behavior and get you thinking in more positive ways to deal with stress and anger.
If this is bothering you,you need to take the initiative and get help for yourself.
