View Full Version : I've found an old pipe in my wall?

There has been a noise eminating from one of our walls recently.

It was originally an external wall although there has been an extension built (before we moved in) over 15 years ago so it is now internal.

I have knocked out the plaster and discovered a blanked off lead pipe. The noise sounds like water but there is no leak anywhere. The noise is constant and continues even if I turn the water off. The pipe is approx 22mm but narrows to be blanked to 10mm. I'm at a complete loss, any suggestions?

BB, Is that pipe capped ? It may be makeshift hammer arrestor. Can you post a photo of this pipe ? Thanks...

Thanks for replying.

I'm not too good with computers so I'm not sure if I've added the attachment correctly but I think I have, let me know if you can see it.

Thanks,

It appears this pipe used to be active some time ago. It looks ugly but there is nothing wrong with it. Somebody capped it off once it wasn't needed. It should not make noise. Noise in pipe travels. It is possible the source of noise is someplace else. Investigate little more. Listen in bathroom close by...
