I am on h1b and my wife on h4, this is my first time joint status filing for tax. She does not have a ITIN , IRS has curtailed the application process for new application till April 2010. Can I still file under joint status by attaching a w7 with my tax return? Or else what's the alternative?

Yes you can file joint return as residents and attach W-7 with your tax return.
