I have a ceiling fan with dimmable halogen lights marked JD-E11 and Home Depot supplied a Philips Sconce Aplique 50 Watt replacement bulb which looks similar to the original, but the fine print on the Philips package states "These lamps should not be used in ceiling fans". I'd already replaced the bulbs and they seem to work fine before reading the fine print on the package. Any ideas about whether I should order exact replacements?

Need to always follow manufactuers instructions, or you assume any risk. Best to get the proper lamp.

Probably has to do with the amount of heat the bulb generates.

Most likely has to do with the robustness of the filament. Ceiling fans shake and vibrate a lot, and bulbs specifically designed for ceiling fans are stronger.
