I am a resident of NYS. I'm in the military, stationed out of state. I meet the qualifications to be tax exempt through out the year on my pay checks. How do I need to file? I'm trying to do it using taxslayer.com and it keeps coming up that I owe NYS.

TaxSlayer is a good basic tax program, but claiming exemptions for issue like military service out of state is beyond its parameters as a tax software package.
You probably need to use a more sophiscated tax program like TurboTax or TaxAct.
