Hi,
Remove the plug and put a doubled piece of rope in the plug hole to block the piston so it will not turn over. It will take a T-20 or T-25 Torx driver or 5/32" Allen wrench down into the place where the driveshaft normally fits to remove the drum. There will be an arrow and "Off" on the clutch to tell you which way to turn it.
Peace,
Clarke

After getting clutch assembly off my craftsman weedeater there's dogears attached to shaft. Is it an interference fit (pressed) on? And if so how do I remove it, so that I can get to pullrope mechanism?

Hi,
More than one company has mad Craftsman, though most are by Poulan/WeedEater. How about the 9 digit model number; it will have 3 digits a period and 6 digits. The first three identify the manufacturer and last ones identify the exact machine.
I think you are saying the clutch drum is of and now you are looking at the actual clutch. The term dog-ears generally refers to the pawls on the flywheel.
Peace,
Clarke

Craftsman weedeater model# 316.791890 how do I rewind mechanism for pullrope. Got clutch off, still can't get to it. What looks like dogears is still on shaft blocking removal of plastic housing. Is it pressed on? Should I heat it up to remove?

Hi,
Spring and all does not need to be removed. It should have an arrow and the word "Off" to show you which way it loosens.
Peace,
Clarke

Pull rope was working, then seemed to not spin flywheel anymore. Rope pulls and retracts OK, just doesn't seem connected to make engine kick. Fairly new.?
