The picture is still visible and you can hear the sound but it flashes sort of like a strobe light. It started doing it before I left for work and when I got home it was fine, but in the morning it started up again. Anybody have this problem before? Please help it's super bowl weekend :(

Seems like the flashing has gotten worse, so I cracked open the TV and noticed the capacitors on the inverter boards (both) have the tops split open w/a little bit of black ooze coming out. When I was checking the voltage coming from the power supply to the inverter board, I noticed every time my test lead touched the board and shifted it, the TV would stop flashing, so I'm taking a guess and saying the board(s) are bad... gonna try and find these capacitors and replace'm... will post progress

I have a sharp 26 inch TV and it is doing the same thing.

Did you ever get it fixed?

Unless you know what you're doing (which I hope the OP of this topic did) don't pop your flat panel open. Chances are you'll have to get the inverter(s) replaced (one of the most common issues with LCDs). This is what happened to the OP.

I would call Sharp if it's still under warranty and see if they can send someone out or if you have to send it out. Or possibly if they'll cover the repair fees for taking it in somewhere. If they will then crack open a phone book and find a place if Sharp doesn't find one for you.

I can replace parts, I work with electronics a lot and I have worked with tv's and lcd monitors before. So that's not a big deal.
With my TV it has a 1 year parts but only 90 days labor warranty.
And I have owned it 10 months now.
I just really want to get an idea what is wrong with the TV so that I can figure out what it will cost, so that I can figure out if I should get it fixed or just get a new TV.

Sorry it took so long to respond, I have replaced the parts (capacitors) and the TV has been working now for 3wks. I will post some pics later. Capacitors cost 1.25 each.

All I can say is ditto. Had same vizio with strobe flashing problem. After tech report said nothing they could do, I opened her up. The capacitors (4 of) them as above were bulging and leaking, replaced all 4, put set back together and picture is fine. No more strobing. It was easy DIYer job if you are OK soldering.

(only I used lower rated temp caps 85 vs 105 C, will watch for now)

Are all capacitors the same? I am having the same problem with our Vizio, which is 4 years old now. It is a 42-in VX-42L HD TV 10A. Also, is there a store I can purchase them from?

Thanks for posting the information. Had the same symptoms. Looked at the caps on both inverter boards and all four caps were blown, looked exactly like the pics you posted. Can't read a size on the caps. What size are they? Where did you find the replacements?

Thanks again!
