Did you just restore back 3 days without uninstalling IE8?
Go to control panel and add remove programs and if IE8 is still there, choose uninstall
If not there, what version of windows using? Download 7 and install, info below
Xp
Get Internet Explorer 7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/ie7/)
vista info here

I have Windows XP. IE8 is not on the Add/Remove Programs but IE7 is. I did go back 3 days without Uninstalling IE8 first. What is missing that I can't understand is at the top of the screen was "File, edit, view, tools and help. All has disappeared along with Favorites.

Download internet explorer again and install over what you have there
As far as your menu bar not being there, IE8 does that, the way to view it is to press the Alt key
So download ie7, uninstall what you have there in add remove if it lets you and then reinstall IE7
The end goal is to reinstall 7 but to remove any remnants if possible with add remove, if does not let you, install and if any messages come up, post here and will try to help

According to a box that came up when I started to remove IE7, all updates and many programs will possibly go away as well. In the meantime my printer is working fine but I can't print anything from the computer. Only on a test the printer works fine. I am ready to toss this
10 yr. old Compaq in the trash.

Well what you can do is a repair installation, Now as far as IE and the install of ie8 at one time and 8 was not installed, I don't know what IE8 may have added to system but is apparently affecting ie7 after doing the restore back a few days.
Try a repair isntallation and then see how that fairs out and can work from there
Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied after repair
Perform a Repair Installation (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx)

I don't have a Windows XP setup CD
... only 6 recovery disks. Thanks for all the helpful info but it looks like this is a lost cause. After I finish
My taxes online, I may pursue it further. Thanks again...

Well if you haven't already, you can download and use Firefox as a browser in the meantime.
Save all important stuff and then reinstall from scratch.
If you know anyone with XP install disk, you ma be able to give a repair install with that if the OS will let you.

A friend of mine started using Firefox and likes it after having a lot of trouble with IE... mostly slow and freezing up. I plan on getting a new computer soon so I'll just hang on until then. I didn't get an install disk... It was already loaded... If one can be obtained at all (I tried to get one from HP for another computer) and after many phone calls and promises
It was never received. Another lesson in life.

I use Firefox.
I take advantage of on line media and the browser of choice for media is Firefox.
Get an opinion and see what people have to say :)

Hope all works out for you, I'm sure it will.
For all of you that have given me so many helpful hints, I appreciate it
Very much. I finally after many hours of trying this and that, I backed
Up everything on a flash drive and used my 6 recovery disks and it
Gave me a clean slate back to 2001. I am using IE6 at this time and
Have updated my virus scanner and many updates. Printer works fine
And computer is faster so I'm letting well enough alone for the time
Being. I will purchase a new computer but I want to use this one as
Long as possible. Thanks again...
