I have read that cholesterol is GOOD for your heart and that Ancel Keys' hypothesis in 1957 was wrong. Thus one study showed that 60% of all heart attack victims had normal cholesterol levels and that fewer than 5% of people with high cholesterol levels ever had a heart attack. It was concluded that people with high cholesterol levels live the longest.

When you have high cholesterol it is because fat like material builds up in the veins, increasing risk of heart disease.
I don't know where you got your information from but it is entirely incorrect. Cholesterol IS NOT GOOD FOR THE HEART. People with high cholesterol levels and damaged veins from this condition, do not live longer.
Edit: did not entirely answer your question. If your cholesterol level is 6.5 mmol/L or greater your risk of heart disease is about 4 times greater than that of a person with a cholesterol level of 4 mmol/L
