What can a 56 year old woman expect to pay for good medical insurance these days?

What do you consider "good" and what country do you live in?

And what type of health, in the US if you have serious health problems it is possible you can't even buy it, they will turn you down if you have several on going illness.

But assuming you are in generally good health, a nice general health insurance for someone that age is about 500 to 600 a month.

It's difficult to answer this question because there are just too many variables.

Are you only looking for basic coverage or a more comprehensive plan?
Do you have any pre-existing conditions?
Are you overweight?
How often do you plan to visit the doctor? (Regular checkups vs visits to a specialist)
Do you want office co-pays?
Would you prefer a lower premium or higher deductible?
Do you want coverage for prescription meds?
Do you want optional coverages such as vision and dental?

The range could be very broad depending on your specific needs. You will have to interview/apply with different companies to see what's best for you and your individual budget.
