I just can't seem to find the right rodent for me, I like them all, but I guess God doesn't want me to have a pet at the moment.

I was searching on a site called "craigslist" and saw that somebody was giving there gerbil away for free. They had a picture of him and his cage. In the cage there was only bedding, a wheel, and a water container. Is that all they need? I am just shocked.
So what do gerbils need? I have never had one.

I never got my Guinea Pig : (
But at least he got a home : )

I had gerbils. They are basically night creatures and like to tear up and shread newspaper - but they do it mostly at night. So if you keep the critter in another room you'd be fine. I had 2 gerbils that apparently were male and female. Well, Mrs. Gerbie had little ones. I had a hard time giving the little ones away. So if there is only one gerbie you are in luck.

Basically gerbies like to chew stuff like wood. There are gerbie chew wooden toys available at pet shops. There really isn't much a gerbie needs other than plenty of newspaper to shread each day. And gerbie food, of course.

Ah, and yes they can and will bite if they don't like the way they are handled so be prepared to have some gloves on your hands until you figure out if he's tame and likes being handled.
