I am having problems adding a new PC to an existing network. They are all using XP and have used the Network Setup Wizard. I've also checked the IP addresses and there are no duplicates, the computer name is unique. I am using a wireless connection.
Thanks,
Ruth

What error messages, if any, are you getting ?
Static or Dynamic IP ?
DHCP enabled ?
Wireless NIC powered ?
WEP key correct ?
MAC filtering?
There's a few things to think about.

I did some more work on this today and I found out that the computer is, in fact, networked. It just doesn't show the other computers in the Workgroup. If I map a network drive to one of the other computers, I am able to do so by typing in the path - cant' use the 'Browse' key there. But when I do type in the path, I can see the folders on the other computer.
I think the NetBIOS is messed up - do you think that this might be correct and do I have to reset the TCP/IP setting?
Does this make sense and what have I done wrong?? Thanks, Ruth:)

Sounds like maybe the new PC isn't in the same workgroup as the others.
As a matter of policy, I make workgroups and domain names one-word, no spaces, all caps. Not sure if this is officially necessary, but it seems to help.
Also be aware that it takes 5 to 25 minutes for a browse master election to take place and all the names to be distributed around the network once the configuration is right. NetBIOS is slow and all broadcast for this part of it's operation.

All the computers are in the same workgroup - but I didn't wait long enough - thanks for catching that. But is does seem that the other computers in the group sometimes appear on the list automatically and sometimes they don't - does this make sense? Also sometimes, the machines appear on the list but I cannot access them. Are networks as strange and they seem to newcomers.
Thanks,
