I'm thanking about bying a 2004 ford ranger engine to put into a 2001 ford ranger. My biggest concern is the wirring and computer.

If it's not an identical engine, I would pass. Many on this site have tried and failed. Your concerns are very real. It's safer to rebuild what you have.
