Not hot! Disturbing!! Yes, it's a German boy and apparently he has an identical twin Tom. Most definitely a male. Doesn't look like one does he?
The one in the baggy white shirt is his identical twin brother.

Something is definitely wrong with this "guy" as guys don't wear eye makeup that makes them look like raccoon eyes unless they are gay. He's probably gay and doesn't admit it as he would have fewer young girls chasing after him. I personally think he's a freak. He can be a good looking man, granted, but those raccoon eyes and overdone makeup is definitely a thing of the past.
What does this "person" do for a living? Probably some band member or band singer is my guess.

Basically the Goth Rock look or bizarre eye makeup is a thing of the 1980's and is definitely in the past. The look is probably very popular over in Germany as a lot of young adults missed the 1980's over there and are now catching up. And this is definitely a gay look with all the chains, etc. as well as the dude looks like a lady.
What part of I'm not fooled by he's "straight" don't you understand? No real man wants to look like a woman unless he has a head full of bad wiring which this person obviously does. He needs therapy and lots of it if indeed he is "straight". (Which I seriously doubt that he is).

Twinkie, androgens live all over america. There are entire neighborhoods, and even cities, that are very accepting of them. The lgbt community and neighborhoods often take them in and give them a place to feel like they belong and are safe.
I have known several androgens who felt safe and comfortable walking down streets in america. I find it sad that people think they should change just to conform with society's preconceptions of gender identity. It's because of those kids of people that sometimes it ISN'T safe for androgens to walk down the street.
In case some of you are unfamiliar with the word: an androgen is someone who acts and/or dresses in an androgynous way. More simply put, someone who makes you think twice about rather or not they are a guy or girl.
There is a very distinct difference between sex and gender. Sex is the physical identification of the body; male or female. Gender is the mental identification with one of society's recognized genders; boy or girl, or even choosing to identify with no recognized gender.
While this person may be male, there is guarantee that 'he' identifies as a boy.

Thank you. I think that makes you a better person. It takes someone comfortable with themselves and understanding enough to realize that everyone is different to be able to accept people for who they are.

Actually, that look is still alive and well in many communities in america. (I can't speak for germany.) it is prevalent in the lgbt community, as well as portions of mainstream society. Many metrosexual men wear some degree of make-up, as well as ANYONE who is on TV or the stage, including actors and politicians.
Most likely, the overdramatic make-up was done for the purpose of those photoshoots. If it was a woman wearing way too much make-up, no one would question the fact that it was done just for those pictures. Since he happens to be male, you seem to assume that he ALWAYS wears that much make-up.
Did anyone ever say that he's straight? If so, then I must have missed it.
I don't think it MATTERS what his sexual orientation is. I am HIGHLY offended that you would say that he has to be mentally unstable to dress the way he does. You more than implied that no straight man would ever dress less than 'manly' and that doing so means severe mental illness, homosexuality, and makes him less of a man. IF he is gay, that DOESN'T make him ANY less a man than anyone else who was born with a penis and does NOT mean that he needs therapy. Homosexuality was taken off the books as a mental illness YEARS ago.
The way he dresses has NOTHING to do with his physical sex, and EVERYTHING to do with his gender identity. If I had to guess, I would say that he is what is known as a gender-er, someone who chooses to ignore all conventional gender rules in favor of doing and wearing what feels most comfortable for them.
The clothing is not absolutely feminine. It seems more unisex, with the possible exception of the jeans. I have known many COMPLETELY straight men who wore women's jeans, simply because they were more comfortable and flattering to them.
Gender identity has NOTHING to do with sexual orientation. Someone who is physically male, but identifies as a women could just as easily be attracted to men or women. The same goes for physical females who identify as men.
This is just an example of a double standard. Women who dress in masculine, or unisex, clothing are called tomboys. Men who wear feminine clothing are called sick and gay and perverts.

ohsohappy agrees: I agree! My whole point of posting this was the fact that I can't tell, I don't like or hate him, I'm just confused! I don't know how to "identify" with him, if you will, as either male or female. While I'm confused, I'm also amused, but I don't hate
Ohso, you would identify with him the same way you would anyone else. It may be a bit awkward, at first, to figure out which pronoun to use (he, she) but the rest is all the same. You talk to androgens the same way you talk to a man or woman. You find a common interest, and you go from there.
Maybe it's just a matter of familiarity. I've spent a lot of time in the gay community, so I've spent more time talking to androgens and other gender non-conformists.

I wish I could rep you again, because you've made some very valid points. Not only that but you helped slightly alter my way of thinking. While I never had an issue with either gay or lesbian women, I've always been confused as to people who are androgynous (or however you spell it) I'm not sure I'll ever completely understand them, because I'm not in their minds But what I can say is that no matter what they are still human beings with feelings and lives and they have had a lot more to go through than a lot of people give them credit for.
That being said, I still think it's amusing when anyone dresses as to the opposite gender to the point where it's that confusing, mostly because my brain can't make sense of it, and it wants to know how to relate. And you're right, I'm pretty sure his clothes are unisex, it's mostly his hair and make-up that throws me off. He just looks so FEMININE! It's not a bad thing at all. And I don't discriminate against who I poke fun at. I'm an equal opportunity teaser; everyone gets a piece of it, especially myself. :)
More than anything I just like to learn about different kinds of people, And honestly, I wish I were as pretty as him.

At least some androgens dress as such, at least partially, to confuse people. They enjoy the moment of confusion and indecision in the pause before someone decides rather to call them sir or ma'am. Most of them don't become offended at being referred to by either.
If you want to get to know some androgens, and other gender non-conformists, I would suggest spending some time in a gay-friendly bar or club, or joining a local allies group.

I was referring to all the crap makeup on HIS face! Not the way he dressed. Huge difference. He dresses like a man. He did not appear to be wearing a dress in any picture.
A real man would not put all that godawful make up on his face around his eyes or wear lipstick!! I do not know of any real man who uses excessive makeup like this. Also the one photo where he is with his brother he looks casual hence he appears to wear his makeup 24/7 or would lead one to believe this.
And the EMO kids are literally dying out from disease or self mutilations as they are generally bisexual and are overly sensitive about anything. The lifestyle and music of the EMO kids is actually banned in Russia.

Odd, but your name is EMO Princess. And this guy has the look of the EMO kids. Do a little research on Google to see what the EMO kids actually are. I may be an old lady but I am, by no means, ignorant of the ways of the world and the people in it.
And also I find your reddie about not everyone cuts themselves to be quite hypocritical as you stated in your Jan 25, 2010 post about how to get rid of scars
Well, I have scars all over my body (both self inflicted and from accidents). No, I am not asking for help hiding scars from my parents. My parents and fiance know about each self inflicted wound, the youngest of them being multiple months old.
You have all the earmarks of being an EMO kid yourself. Bisexual and a cutter. Right there is 2 earmarks of an EMO kid.
I find you to be a troll. And a 17 year old troll at that. Don't you have any homework that needs to be done?

Actually, I have the maturity not to be a troll. The "emo princess" thing is merely a nickname given to me by my fiancé. He actually is considered emo, but does not harm himself. Google is full of sites that stereotype. Please tell me you aren't an adult. If so I pity you that you feel the need to argue with and insult a 17 year old. As for homework- no I do not. Even the picture with his brother was a photoshoot. It doesn't matter if he's wearing casual clothes, or not. My guess is that the make-up is part of his professional persona and, therefore, he makes sure to be wearing it in all publicity shots, or any other shots taken for websites or promotional purposes. It could also be that he just likes wearing make-up and feels naked without it.
Once again, if he were a WOMAN, no one would question his appearance. You are placing a double standard on him simply because he was born male.
I want to know where you are getting your information on 'emo kids.' it seems biased and poorly researched. I am aware of NO statistics showing that 'emos' are predominantly bisexual, or any statistics about their sexuality at all. I am also unaware of any statistics showing that 'emos' are dying at a faster rate than any other social subgroup.
Also, your implication that bisexuality and self-harm go hand-in-hand is unfounded and highly offensive. You have, repeatedly, made derogatory statements and assumptions about the lgbt community, gender non-conformists, and other social subgroups in this thread. I, politely, request that you either watch your words more carefully, or refrain from posting in a topic you obviously have negatives feelings toward.

Odd, but your name is EMO Princess. And this guy has the look of the EMO kids. Do a little research on Google to see what the EMO kids actually are. I may be an old lady but I am, by no means, ignorant of the ways of the world and the people in it.
Odd but your picking on what someone has in their user name, grow up.
Oh well done there you've managed to find one person who cuts themselves, found out they're bisexual, linked it to them possibly being an emo and stereotyped the lot, congrats
I find you to be very childish and spiteful.
And the EMO kids are literally dying out from disease or self mutilations as they are generally bisexual and are overly sensitive about anything. The lifestyle and music of the EMO kids is actually banned in Russia.
:D what? Are you actually suggesting that emo kids die from disease? please tell me what the disease is called
Self mutilations? Not every emo does that, the reasons for people to do that are mostly due to how they feel about their life, also plenty of non emos have mutilated themselves.
Oh and in as far as I can find that just an idea possibly being brought it because of other countries complaining about it and that's just in schools, link please?

I was referring to all the crap makeup on HIS face!! Not the way he dressed. Huge difference. He dresses like a man. He did not appear to be wearing a dress in any picture.
A real man would not put all that godawful make up on his face around his eyes or wear lipstick!!! I do not know of any real man who uses excessive makeup like this. Also the one photo where he is with his brother he looks casual hence he appears to wear his makeup 24/7 or would lead one to believe this.

I have to say, that looking at his hair in these pictures, hair must be disgusting to touch. All of that hair glue, on the last picture I posted if you look it just looks icky. I think he would do better without all of that. The first one where his hair was down it looked nice and shiney, not caked in glue.

Twinkie, are you homophobic?
I dated a guy that looked a lot like him once, not as pretty, but he did the eyeliner, chains, long hair, black nail polish. Trust me, he wasn't gay.
So what if this guy is gay? Does it matter? Just because he wears makeup and has long hair doesn't make him gay. Would you want to be judged by your outward appearance?
If he's not gay, I'd date him, he's gorgeous. I can't stop looking at that picture, he truly is beautiful, gay, straight, male, female, there's something striking about him, with makeup, without. It's called a gimmick and bands have been doing it forever.
It really is sad that some people are so intolerant just because of the way a person dresses or what they wear on their face.
Judge not lest you be judged. :)

Have to spread the rep.
I just wanted to say, I would even date him, and I'm not into guys. It's not even just that fact that he's attractive, which he is. You can just tell that he's confident and comfortable with who he is. Both of which are attractive in anyone.

Exactly!
Also, being German myself, I know the culture and this isn't anything that would be alarming or off to anyone in Germany. I guess having been raised German I don't see things the way that others do. Personally, I'm okay with that.
Maybe it's acceptance that everyone is different and they should be allowed to be who they are without being judged.
I just find it odd that how a person looks would cause anger and hate.
Also, if he is gay (which he claims he's not) then what's the big deal? Is it worse if he's gay and wears makeup? If so, why? I just don't understand. I guess I never will.

I wanted to say that his look would be seen as 'normal' in germany, but I couldn't figure out where I'd drawn that conclusion from. I'm glad it wasn't wrong.
Unfortunately, I don't find it odd that someone's appearance could cause anger and hate. I've seen it too many times, and been the subject of it more than once.
I had notes and signs placed on my dorm room door on a few occasions because of how I look and who I chose to associate with. My sexuality was usually the focus of the attacks. My religion ran a close second.
Even now, it's not safe for me to be completely honest about who I am. I live in a county where homophobia is the accepted norm. I run the risk of verbal, and possibly even physical, attacks if I go out in public wearing rainbows. If I'm open about my religion, I risk being labeled a satanist or witch.
So, I live in the closet quietly with the door open and hope the wrong people don't notice me. I watch what I say and who I say it to. Sometimes I even pretend to be something I'm not. I do my best to never outright lie, but I try not to make the truth too obvious. It's a dance I've been practicing for longer than I can remember.
Alty, if he were gay, it would easier for people (at least american people) to accept the fact that he wears make-up. Effeminate affectations, like wearing make-up or having long hair, stereotypically belong on gay men. Preconceived notions of gender and masculinity become challenged when a straight man chooses to adopt those affectations.
Many americans just can't reconcile a straight man choosing to do or wear things typically associated with women, and they react with anger and hate to cover the fear and confusion. It's easier to hate something you don't understand than to take the time and effort to learn how to understand and accept it.

Yes, but it is a slow and lopsided process. And there will always be people who will accept alternative life styles in theory, but will unable to accept them in reality.

Jan 30, 2010, 02:07 PM
It's a very slow process. I do understand, in theory, why some people have such a hard time with this. But I can't understand why people aren't willing to look past what's on the outside and see a person for who they are.
I am raising my kids the way my parents raised me, with tolerance and understanding for everyone. If my son or daughter told me they were gay, that would be fine with me. The only thing that would concern me are the things you mentioned Heath, the way others would treat them because of who they are. That would scare me to death because sadly I do know how intolerant many people still are about something that cannot be changed. Being gay isn't a choice, any more then being straight is. At least here in Canada, gays can marry, can be a family and live together as a couple, openly. Still there is hate, that's universal and I can't see it changing completely.
As long as there is one person out there with prejudice, more prejudice will be born and raised. Those people that choose to instill hate in their children are no better then child abusers, in my mind.
It makes me so angry, especially because there's nothing I can do about it except make sure that my children and my family aren't part of the problem.

A lot of the abuse associate with being gay is a matter of perception. You can choose to take it personally, or you can choose to try to educate them.
The first note I got on my door said, 'we hate weird dikes.' I chose to correct her spelling, thank her for taking the time and effort to make the note and decorate it, and left it on my door to show that I could not be intimidated.
Thankfully, I have never been the target of physical violence.
I'd thought of suggesting moving this to another forum, I just never did. The discussion forum would be the best place for it, if for no other reason than to avoid reddies. There has already been at least one that was completely undeserved, and another that I suspect was given, at least partially, as pay-back.

I have a few gay friends, some bi-sexual friends and of course straight friends. I don't define them that way though. That's not who they are, or what they are, that's just a preference, just like my being heterosexual is a preference.
I'm glad that you've never had a physical confrontation because of your sexual preference. I hope you never do. How someone could hate someone so much, someone they don't even know, just because of who they're attracted to, it's mind boggling. I can't understand it and I won't accept it.
I do think that it's a lack of education, tolerance, the way someone's raised. How to change that I don't know, all I know is that we have to try.

The only way to change it is to begin education at a young age. Children have to be taught about alternative life styles and taught that they're OK.
Until it becomes commonplace to see couples of all shapes, sizes, and orientations holding hands and kissing in public without harassment, nothing will change. Until people are judged by who they are, not who they like or what the wear or believe in, nothing will change. As long as people choose to remain ignorant of other life styles, nothing will change.

Again I wish I could rep you.
A few years ago, when Jared was around 7 years old the neighbor boy that he plays with had a friend over. Jared has always been a very affectionate child and when he saw his friend he ran up to him and hugged him. That's how we are, we're very huggy people.
The friend that was over called Jared a "faggot" and hit him, telling him to leave and never come back. Jared's friend didn't know what to do, he stood up for Jared but Jared was so upset that he came running home.
He came running through the door in tears, so upset. It took a while for him to calm down enough for him to tell me what had happened. Then he asked "what's a faggot? Am I one? Is it bad?"
So I explained. First I told him that I didn't like the word faggot and I would not tolerate it. I told him that it was a bad word and that the appropriate word was gay or homosexual. I then explained, in a way that a 7 year old would understand and accept, what being gay meant.
My sweet child, so innocent, looked at me and said "why is that wrong? Why is it a bad thing? Does it matter who you love?"
I could have cried, not because of his innocence, but because of his understanding.
We marched over to the neighbors house, the two boys were in the backyard. I pulled them aside and we had a long talk. The boy that had called Jared the name and hit him got an earful from me. He was always a problem though, so much so that Jared wasn't allowed to go near him. I didn't want that influence around my son.
Jared is now 11 and even though he likes girls, he's doesn't view being gay as a bad thing, or even that different. It's normal to him that people love who they love and it shouldn't matter what sex they are.

Many people think his look is strange but look at pictures of glam metal bands like Motley Crue, Poison and Whitesnake from 1985. That look was common back then and not considered gay. Everyone including me had a mullet and leather jacket back then. I miss those days when mullets were cool and not associated with criminals and losers.

What I don't quite understand here is that you have this belief that since its in Germany no one is put off by it. Im sure there are thousands that are. Its no different then here as far as younger vs older generations. Traditionalist vs Progressive. Sure there are different attitudes there then here or where you are and that's what makes it unique. But it in no way makes it a node for mass acceptance of the anything goes attitude.

Jared is now 11 and even though he likes girls, he's doesn't view being gay as a bad thing, or even that different. It's normal to him that people love who they love and it shouldn't matter what sex they are.
children are amazing. They can and will accept just about anyone for who they are, as long as no one poisons them against them.
you are raising a couple of amazing children, which means you must be an amazing mother ^_^

Some kids can be geniuses with compassion and openness, others can gang up on you and hold you down to a chair, cover your mouth with the teacher's scotch tape, force as makeover on you (by cutting your hair, making nails and stabbing them into your fingers and when that doesn't work, stapling them on, doing a makeshift wax job on your eyebrows with superglue, and using tweezers from the science center to rip out every hair on your arms and legs one by one), all because you hugged your girlfriend in 4th grade

What I dont quite understand here is that you have this belief that since its in Germany no one is put off by it. Im sure there are thousands that are. Its no different then here as far as younger vs older generations. Traditionalist vs Progressive. Sure there are different attitudes there then here or where you are and thats what makes it unique. But it in no way makes it a node for mass acceptance of the anything goes attitude.
If I made it sound like everyone in Germany accepts it, I'm sorry. You're right, not everyone does, but it is more accepted then in the US or even Canada.
I was born in Germany, then moved to Canada. I've gone back to visit often because all my mothers family still lives there. When I was 16 I went there for 2 months by myself. The lifestyle is very different there. People are just more tolerant of each other. Why? I don't know.

Maybe because of everything germany's been through. After that much intolerance it makes sense that they would tend toward the other extreme.

That's probably why.
Being there is so very different. People don't have as many hang ups, even my Aunts and Uncles and they're definitely of the older generation, heck, I'm getting to that point. :(
I remember going roller skating while I was there when I was 16. These girls were on the rink holding hands, kissing. No one gave them a second look. That was.. gulp.. 22 years ago! I'm so glad I had the experience of going there, of living in that culture while I was old enough and young enough to really appreciate it. It changed my life for the better. Not that I was intolerant before, but I had never seen such freedom to just be yourself, to walk around an openly display who you are without anyone thinking it strange.
I was a boringly normal teen in many respects, not so much in others. I never went against the norm when it came to my looks etc. The biggest thing I ever did was get a second piercing in my ear. Hey, in the 80's that was a big deal! ;)
I admired people who could be so courageous, so open, so fearless. That's how I though of it. I still admire the people that have the courage to say "this is who I am and you'll never change me, so like it or lump it". It took me a long time to accept myself for who I am. If I had been gay or bi, that trip to Germany would have served me even more. :)

If you were there that long ago then you went at a unique time as it was the rebirthing of a nation. They absolutely had to have acceptance at that time. That was around the fall of the Berlin wall. The nation had to stand strong to survive. Also Germany regained its right to a army. Something they were banned from since WW2. There are still elders there that cling to older ways. But as in the new generations there are different attitudes that come with it. What you might not understand is that there were still generations living in Germany at that time that thought that women wearing pants was a strange idea. What do you expect from a country that held David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair as superstars :)

A good friend of mine used to dress (and pose) similar, and yep, he came out a few years back.
Not judging at all, doesn't bother me if he's gay or straight but he sure looks gay.

Jean Simmons still active with his band KISS. They played in Oshawa last year to a sold out audience, so are very popular. Jean Simmons keeps it going with his special make up and tongue activity and his reality TV show with his wife who was a former playgirl, I think her name is Sharon something. I started watching that TV show until I got so bloody sick of the same thing and his family values, his son and daughter which were so much like the both of them. No, I was never a KISS fan, which was supposed to mean 'kids in satanic service'. And, way back when, if you ran their 78s backwards it was supposed to be messages from the devil. Whatever. That was in the 70s just after flower power, etc. An interesting time, in transition to now.

I just find it interesting that so many people judge him by the way he looks. Even if he didn't have a stitch of makeup on, he's still very feminine looking. That's not his fault, he's had no surgeries to look that way (unlike Michael Jackson) he was born looking like that.
Yes, he chooses to wear makeup, as part of his look for his band, which by the way has won many awards and is doing very well in the music industry.
It just brings home the truth that you should never judge a book by its cover. :)

Bill is the boy in the pictures that Ohso posted. He's the lead singer of a band called "Tokio Hotel" and in my opinion, he's a very talented singer.
The only reason I know so much about him is because I've been researching him since Ohso started this thread. They're a German band, as you know I'm German, and they're making it big not only in Germany but the US as well.
I even posted some links to their music (which isn't for everyone) a few pages back.
