I am in strange situation - Can some one help/guide?
1. I applied for ITIN (for spouse) along with Federeal Tax filing (in Feb 2009) with my then current US address.
2. I lost project and returned back to India (in Mar 2009) and am not sure if I will go back to US again.
3. I received the Tax refund in Aug 2009 - calculation is as per Joint filing.

4. I have no clue if the ITIN was issued. Of course, I don't have the ITIN number as well.
5. Currently I am in India and have to file taxes for Jan to Mar 2009.

Now I have below questions -
1. Can I assume that ITIN was issued (as the calculation of refund is correct)?
2. If yes, How can I get the ITIN? - any phone# or email id or form to be submitted?
3. If no, Can I reapply for ITIN?
4. If no, what are other options?

Thanks in advance,
-Sam

Call IRS 1-800-829-1040.
Or you can fax IRS form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return. Transcripts should have ITIN.

Thanks MukatA, hope this helps.
Although this raises more questions -
1. If I call, will they give me my Spouse's ITIN? Or My spouse needs to call to get the ITIN?
2. If I fill 4506-T form, will they send the transcript to overseas? If not, can I give someone else's US Address?

Thanks.

1. I am not sure. But there should not be a problem if you have copy of 2008 tax return in you hand.
2. Better give US address.
