My Ariens 2cycle SS322 with HSK600 engine carburetor (float style-No idle adj screws-only main mixture screw on bottom of float bowl) is surging and can not seem to get its rpm high enough to thro the snow.

The air vane is moving too much and engine surges back and forth.

I have checked the vent hole on the fuel cap and it seems okay and not blocked. Choke works fine. Idles with slight surge.

Checked the governor parts for sticking and binding which seem okay.

I have the horizontal fixed speed plastic air vane governor which has a bendable tab connected to a spring for adjusting the governor. I have tried bending the tab for more tension of spring and that does not work and also bending it for less tension and that does not work. The engine surges back and forth in both cases.

I am trying to check to see if there is an air leak (gasket/seal) in the crankcase but how do I find the leak?

Bought it used this year and owner said it was in EXCELLENT CONDITION??

Also, if there is anything I may have missed in checking, please let me know.

Thanks PGuz

Hi,
You have missed some jetting somewhere. Sometimes newer engines look like the location where the low speed adjustment was is plugged. It is probably a plastic cap that conceals a jet. The manual is here:
