View Full Version : Whirlpool Dryer Lint Trap Obstruction

My 4 year old 'imperial' whirlpool front loading dryer will not let me push the lint trap back in.

I started a load for drying, but remembered the lint trap needed cleaning, so I opened the door to stop the dryer, pulled out the lint trap, cleaned it out and attempted to put it back in.

I was only able to push the lint trap about 5 inches back in when it stopped. But in doing that, with the door shut, the dryer resumed on it's own(the timer was still ticking)..

I noticed next to where the lint trap screws are on top, was a note... if there is three signals, then stop the machine and empty the lint trap...

From all this... I assume either I inadvertently let something fall down the opening and it got wedged-in or this 'sensor' that measured either flow or pressure was jammed.

In any event.. my job now seems to be to get closer to the jammed area and clean or reset it... is it easlier to lift the top and access the jam or remove the back panel and access the jam?. I have done both but not for this...

Thanks,

captnpops.

If the lint trap is under the door on the front of the machine, you can just remove the front cover, you should find your obstruction there, most likley a wad of lint.
