How do you confirm someone is licensed electrician for your state? Additionally, what does it mean when they are "bonded"?

As a licensed electrician, I am bound to produce my license to anyone who asks to see it.

Course, even if the expiration date is valid, I suppose someone could still be a fraud.

Take note of the license number, and you can contact your state Dept of Professional Licensing, or the agency that issues licenses to tradesmen.

My State has a license search tool at their website to check for valid licenses:

Licensee Search : Office of Licensing and Registration (http://www.maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing/license_search.htm)

Bonded is explained here:

What It Means To Be Bonded, Licensed & Insured (http://www.bargaineering.com/articles/what-it-means-to-be-bonded-licensed-insured.html)

Not the same as being insured for libility and workers compensation.

Any contractor should be insured, not just bonded.
