View Full Version : Need to stop eating

I'm 16, and currently I have been out of control.

I overeat all the time, if I am angry or sad or stressed - I eat
And these weeks I have been sad all the time[stupid reasons, but now I managed to get over them somehow] but the problem is I have become sort of "addicted", like when things go wrong - I eat, and I although all my friends and family say I am not getting fat.. I am getting a bit fat, and it's quiet what one will expect after eating all the sweets and food he/she finds right?
The question is, how can I change? Be the old person I was, when whenever I had a problem I only ate a few bit more, but then I was always on the right track again a few days after?
I appreciate any advice

Eat foods that fill you up fast, Chlli, Cabbage, stuff like that... Also drink A lot of water, I use to eat NONSTOP, then I drank a lot of water and couldn't fit one thing in my mouth I was so full...

I also eat too much. I just love to eat though but I also eat when I'm bored, emotional, or whenever. How to control yourself is something each person differs . Me I just convence myself that this is not the way to go about this or that. Having people around to open up to and share your thoughts and tell you that sometimes its going to be a rough road going through life BUT its NOT allways going to be so bad. There are people in this world that are a lot more screwed up than you I'm sure of and the ones that CHOOSE to share their feelings and thoughts with others around them that care rebound and have a easier time fin ding their old selves. No matter what you say or do those around you will listen and know you better than you think. You just have to listen and share.

I had the same problem that you have. Putting on weight is the easiest thing in the world but reducing it literally needs sweat and blood so do not allow yourself to become fat. Drink lots of water, soups and juices whenever you get the urge to binge. Eat 5-6 small meals a day and allow yourself a day to cheat but do it moderately. You're only sixteen, I'm sure you'll come out of this habit.:)

Try and find something else to do when you are stressed.
I admit when something goes wrong in my life I used to head for the cupboard too.

You need to find a hobby to keep yourself busy. Whenever you are feeling stressed pick up your hobby of choice and get busy.
Try something like knitting, yeah I know it sounds old and dorky but if you get good at it you could even set up a market stall and sell scarves and jumpers for some extra money.

I've seen some pretty nice hand-knitted scarves. :)

Back on topic though, I just glanced over the other posts and one thing I didn't see (but could have still been there) was to eat slower too.

The best thing to do is like Shaz said, get something to do when you feel stressed or bored. Hopefully that'll stop you from eating when you're not hungry. When you do eat, eat slower so that you can feel when you are full. Also, don't eat until you hurt, just eat until you are comfortable. And drink plenty of liquid with your meal.

I remember I used to be able to eat two mushroom and swiss burgers at Hardee's, along with fries and a drink. Now I pack myself a lunch and can barely eat a turkey and cheese sandwich with a handful of pretzels and a couple glasses worth of water. My stomach has shrunk so much. I usually only end up eating half the sandwich (granted I'll probably snack on some more pretzels half-way between lunch and dinner). To get to that point, I did as Shaz recommends and found other things to do. It wasn't just one thing for me though. I would do cleaning, go to friend's homes and just hang out, go see my parents and chat (they'd try to feed me, but if I wasn't hungry, I'd politely say no :) ), etc. I always found something to do, and even if it ended up being that I was searching for something to do, it was better than eating just to pass the time. :)

It's all about redeveloping habits.

If your not over weight, your fine. I'm thinking you are a teenager so, you must eat, your growing. Many girls think they are fat even when they look like Lindsay Lohan. If you really think you are gaining too much... exercise, dance, anything to burn calories.

All the above are great posts, I would like to add that a good walk, especially in the morning, for 45 minutes. Will suppress your appetite. Exercise is a great appetite controller. It also will give you the endorphins to help you feel happier-a double treat.

I don’t know what is happening to me these days.
To begin with, I am an emotional eater, and in the past few months I was really sad all the time, (really all the time) and I ate a lot that I gained some wait. Then I went through a phase where I ate nothing at all, and I started to get thinner, than when I saw that I am not that fat anymore, I began to overeat again, like I wanted to eat for those times when I didn’t eat, I didn’t satisfy myself with a bar of chocolate, but I ate 4 or 5 repetitively!
Sometimes I try exercising, or eating salads and all, and than that same afternoon, or a week later, I end up overeating again.

I excused myself (I know it is wrong) that maybe because I felt lonely, and I was really sad and I also was sad from a boy I used to like & go out with that didn’t showed interest anymore but I really wanted him.

But now, I was really happy, I succeeded in eating properly and all.
What I wished for; to be truly loved, I got it, and I really was happy. But all of a sudden I sometimes become sad because I know this will not last (I don’t know why, maybe because every time when there is something good, there is always something bad ready to ruin it).
I bought new swimsuit just yesterday and I made a commitment to myself to eat healthy and exercise regularly.
.. Yesterday mum bought a huge packet of chocolate, and there I go again. I overate a lot!
I did it again today. First I ate 2 small bars of chocolate, then I felt guilty and did some exercise. Then I ate lots and lots of chocolate!
I don’t know what I am doing. It seems like I can't control myself (I used to feel this way before)

Sorry for writing too long,
Any help please?
I appreciate a lot any help given :)

I figured out that whatever food is sitting around, I eat it. Therefore, I try to surround myself with foods that I SHOULD eat and especially foods with good "mouth feel" -- crunchy foods like various kinds of nuts and seeds (pecan halves, toasted sunflower seeds) or cut-up strips of green peppers and carrots, soft and chewy foods like dates and dried figs and raisins. These foods will satisfy me after I eat a handful. Also, always have a glass of ice water or an unsweetened flavored liquid nearby and sip from it throughout the day. Move your body too -- walk more and up the stairs instead of taking the escalator or elevator. Ask your mum to buy DARK chocolate and BAKED chips and less-fattening choices.

You're a good writer. Do you ever write stories for fun?

Instead of reaching for food, reach for a pen or a computer keyboard. What I like to do to get me in the mood for writing is for someone to give me a first sentence and then I write a story from that. The writers' group I belong to decided we each should write a short story for June's meeting. Here's the first sentence we decided on: For a long time I used to go to bed early. One guy is writing a western story, another is writing a romance, another is writing a horror story, and I am writing a children's book -- each one will have that sentence as the first sentence. Should I assign you a first sentence? :D

Here's your first sentence:

It was love at first sight.

Now, write a short, short story, maybe 200 words or so, a page -- western, horror, romance, perhaps a poem, children's book, science fiction, fantasy. I'll write one too, and we can compare stories in a day or so. How about let's post our stories here Friday evening. Okay?

That works for me! And munch on healthful fresh veggies while you write.
