View Full Version : Can an employer check on a private doctors visit.

An employer needs a doctors note due to an absence after a vacation day, but I didn't go to the doctor. Can an employer verify the appointment if a doctors note was obtained for that day under the HIPAA law?

Just because he calls to clarify an appt. with the receptionist has nothing to do with HIPAA. but if he asked why you wanted to do see your doctor, and she told him, then yes, that is a violation. Why were you untruthful ? These issues always come back to bite us in the behind.

Do you have sick days and did you use one for this absence? Be clear with us, did you present a doctors note and how did you get this note if you did not see a doctor? Got to have all the truthful facts before we can help.
