View Full Version : Incorrectly installed flange

I was installing a new toilet but I have uncovered what I think to be a toilet flange installed 90 degrees off. The slots designed to hold the stool bolts from turning are front and back and on the left and right are bolt slots but they do not keep the bolt heads from turning. I've tried to find larger headed bolts, but can't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SOB (Sweet Old Bill)

Hi SOB...

Those side slots will work once you get the bolt started...

If your closet flange is just above or flush with the finish floor, you could use a flat brass nut and a flat washer to tighten the closet bolts to the flange prior to setting the bowl... shouldn't intefere with seal between wax gasket and toilet bowl. Then you install the toilet bowl/gasket and tighten all down with the closet bolt nuts supplied with the toilet bolts... should work fine!

For me, I just usually use a little bit of extra wax to pack around the new closet bolts enough that I can set the bowl down over the flange and tighten all up.

Either way works.

Let us know if you want to discuss more... OK?

Mark,

I did what you said and it worked fine. Thanks very much for the info.
