How long can I stay outside the U.S. in a period of one year? Can I leave for 6 months, come back in the U.S. for a couple of weeks and go out again? Or would that put in risk my green card? I know that I would need to apply for an I-131 in order to stay for more than 6 months without having to come back in the US... but if I do come back and want to leave again... what could be the consequence of that? Is it true that you can't stay outside the US for more than 6 months (total... can be more than one trip) in a period of one year? Even if I'm still authorized to come back in.. Would it be enough reason to deny me renewal of my green card or citizenship application? Thank you.

If you stay in US only a couple of weeks and leave... on the third time, immigration may not let you in again.
Better be safe by getting I-131 approved before you go. Staying in US less than 50% of the time plus no evidences of ties to US such as own property, have secured job, etc. may jeopardize your status when you apply for naturalization.
