I have two toilets in my house, and the toilets are both old style toilets with large water capacity. Until about a week ago both toilets were flushing properly. Now both toilets need to be flushed about three times to get rid of all solids. I am on city sewer system. The toilets are not back to back, but are just separated by a wall. Do I need to call a plumber, and is this problem something urgent?

Sounds like you may have a partiall blockage in the drain for the two toilets. Try flushing one toilet while having someone watch the other toilet and let us know if the water in the other toilet fluctuates at all.

If the bathtub and or shower drain is not affected it is possible that you might get on the roof and run a cable down the commode vent. If it is something that has simply formed a soft blockage you might break it loose. If not you will probbly need a serviceman, and it is only urgent if the commodes become fully blocked.
