Greetings:
I wish to file a WARRANTY CLAIM relative to Reliant Building Products, which furnished Carefree brand vinyl replacement windows installed on my home .
Following is a brief description of my claim.
In June 1999 Consumer Construction, Inc.(CCI), 14841 Build America Drive
Woodbridge, VA 22191, (703) 491-0745, furnished and installed 13 double-hung (total 26 panes) replacement vinyl windows, Carefree brand, with Low E glass and argon gas. Total cost including installation, $4,200.00.
Initially, My wife Robin and I had been generally pleased with the products, however, after a year, 13 of the units had begun to film-up on the inner (sealed) surfaces; we couldn't clean these areas. Also, at least one window frame became loose, preventing safe cleaning from inside our house. The faulty double-hung windows became almost totally covered (upper & lower panes) with a brown film on the interior surfaces, rendering the windows useless.
Unknown to us, Reliant Building Products went bankrupt shortly after my windows were installed by Consumer Construction, Inc. When I contacted Consumer Construction, its owner said they were aware of the Reliant bankruptcy, but only warranted Consumer Construction's installation work.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Greater Washington, D.C. informed me that Consumer Construction refused an offer to arbitrate either replacing or reimbursing me for the faulty windows. My BBB case versus Consumer Construction was closed "unresolved."
On January 8, 2010, having only recently learned that Reliant has a Bankruptcy Warranty Claim Service, P.O.Box 4007, Bryan, TX 77805, I submitted a claim for my defective windows. In no uncertain terms, Reliant replied that my claim would not be considered if I did not send Reliant a copy of the warranty I was to have received for my windows.
I NEVER RECEIVED A WARRANTY FOR MY CAREFREE BRAND WINDOWS from the installer or Reliant. And I have since learned that I am not alone among Carefree "customers" who also never received a warranty.
