I jut bought a new puppy. He is 3 months old and he refuses to "eliminate" outside. I walk him outside after he eats and he still comes in the house and pees and poos in the house. Also he not only poos in his crate he rolls all in it and I have to give him at least 1 bath everyday! Please any suggestions would be GREAT!

How long after you feed him do you walk him? How long do you walk him for before bring him back inside?

What are you feeding him?

Where did you get him from and how long have you had him?

What shampoo are you using on him? Does it have a scent he might find objectionable?

We walk him with in an hour afeter meals, for about 10 -20 minutes walks (I don't know where you are but here there is ice on the ground, lol). We are feeding him puppy chow, just like my other puppy. We got him from the pet store called "just puppies" and I had him bathed at petsmart. I have only had him for about 4 days but I have NEVER had a dog take longer than 2 days to get the idea of at least going once outside, then I work on eliminating the inside accidents. You need to take him out pretty soon after he eats. Take him out after he wakes up from a nap. Take him out after he plays or after he gets stimulated. Praise him when he goes out.

How big is his crate? It should be just big enough for him to stand and turn around - any bigger and he will be able to designate a spot to go to the bathroom, and you don't want that.

How long is he being left alone in a crate?

Well I can tell you the main reason you are having so much trouble potty training... the fact you bought from a pet store.

A good percentage of pet store dogs are from puppy mills and the rest are from backyard breeders.

At pet stores and puppy mills the dogs are kept in the 'displays' all day and night, they have no concept of toilet training and generally just poop wherever they want an the pet store workers clean it up.
Puppy mills are even worse, they often don't get cleaned out for days at a time.

You just have to be consistent.
Make sure you take you dog out at regular intervals... we take ours out every hour when they are awake and if they are sleeping we leave it until immediately after they wake up.

I would also like to know how long your dog is in the crate for?
Does he poop in the crate straight after you put him in there or is it only after he has been in there a while?

I think they are recognized here in the US, I have a Poodle book from 1997 and it is the only cross breed that they mention. Cock-a-poo which has been around here forever isn't even mentioned.

The Cock-a-poo has been around for decades but is still not a recognised breed.
Same with the Labradoodle.
There is a 'club' here for the labradoodle, they have even made up a fake breed standard, it's all smoke and mirrors though to lure people into a sale.

As most of you know I'm not a fan of cross-bred dogs, I have no problem with them when they are adopted from shelters, I praise people that do, but in my opinion they should never, ever be bought for money.

He has is in the crate only at night which ranges from 6-8 hours. Im a stay home mom so Im home all day! I let him out every hour to hour and a half and as soon as he get back in the house ha messes in the house. Today he messed on my carpet and then while I was getting stuff to clean it up he smeared it across the carpet! I put in the crate just now because he has messed in the house 5 times today and as soon as I put him in there he peed. I have him in the smallest crate possible. He only has room to sit or lay. He can't even stand up fully. Im not giving up on him. And the info about the pet store seems dead on! Thank you to everyone who is helping! As for the part about the shelter pets, we tried to adopt a dog from a shelter and they wanted over $300 and then they turned us down because my other dog is not spayed. They didn't care that she is just now old enough to spay. I think if shelters want to find owners for the pets then hey need to ease up on the stupid rules like that one.

Have you had him checked out by a vet, yet? General check up to make certain he is healthy? Do you have 'his' health records from the store?

If you are playing with him or giving him attention does he stop and squat or does he only do it when you are busy with something else or the other dog?

A scary thought that may be a very hard habit to break. He may have learned at the store that 'playing' in his feces gets him extra attention.

$300.00 is crazy!:eek: Basically, from everything else posted... you need more control over your pup. I have never had this problem.:confused::)

It does sound like he learned to get dirty so as to get more attention while he was at the store. In that situation, any attention is good, and needed.

You have to re-train him that being clean is better. Do not put him in his crate to dry off. Use a towel and play with him a little.

More attention is likely going to be the key to all this fella's training needs.

Stay out until he goes, be it 5 minutes or 50. Praise and attention after his first couple of times should be lavish, and while he's still outside. If he tries to go inside, stop him and take him out immediately. This is why I'm an advocate for fenced yards.

He has a fur coat. A couple of hours outside isn't dangerous for him.

Ok, well he pees in front of us even when we play with him. But when he poos he hides to do it. As for picking the breed, we just picked the dog that did the best with our kids when we met him. I really wanted t shetland sheep dog but the kids were afraid of him . We all hit it off great with the dog we got. We have a partailly fenced yard and are working on extending the fence so hopefully that will help! I have also noticed that when a male takes him outside he will urinate without a problem but when a female takes him out he only wants to play!

Does your puppy eat poop? Typically if they roll in it, they eat is as well. This is a very tough habit to break. Coming from a puppy store narrows it all down. The puppies aren't kept very clean and have learned to live in a dirty environment. Your puppy is too young for this type of behavior to be a survival tactic.

How long is the puppy left in the crate?

I'm not a big fan of puppy chow. You should try and get your pup on a better food. CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE DOG LOVERS SOUL - Puppy Food is a good dog food that isn't very expensive.

Can we get that food from petsmart or petco??

There are training potty pads they are mats you can put anywhere in your house. They have attracting smells to "mark their territory" I got them for my dog and the older one who was blind was using it. Buy them try them out
