So here is the deal. I recently found out that I was pregnant; yet again! Anyway, just the week prior I had multiple x-rays, popped multiple pain pills as I have been in awful pain and not able to walk, sleep or sit because of the pain. The morning I was scheduled to have my bone scan, my suggested that I take an at home test, came back positive and since then I have had blood test to confirm, have a due.. yada yada. I have little to no mobility in my left hip, leg and knee. The x-rays showed profound arthritis and since I discovered I am pregnant I stopped taking the pain meds. How will the arthritis effect my pregnancy and ability to deliver the child? Also, is there any form of safe pain medicine that I may take when the pain is unbearable? I would like to mention that I almost 32, which was the shocker for my Doctor when he reviewed my x-rays to see the amount of arthritis in my hip/knee. Thank you in advance!

You are not in a good predicament. Do not take ibuprofen, asprin, or motrin. Tylenol, acetaminophen, is the better choice to relieve pain. Although, it is not recommended to take it constantly. It is relatively safe when taken occasionally for your pain relief. However, with arthritis, I think you will need to be taking more the recommended dose. So talk to your doctor, and he/she will help you decide. Also, I think you will be needing pain killers rather the over-the-counter medication. There are several medications that are available for you that are relatively safe for you and your baby. They, however, are not recommended for prolonged use. So once again, talk to your doctor about your options. Excessive use in pain killers has some dangers though. Your baby is at risk, premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, light birth weight, breathing problems, and of course drowsiness. Some medications can give you bleeding problems, dangering delievery. As you get into your third trimester expect a whole lot more pain. Additional weight and pressure is no good for your arthritis. The safest way for you to deliever is through a c-section, for the sake and safety of you and your baby. Good luck. :)

Thank you Jaysie for your response. I was afraid that the response would be exactly what you said. I have scheduled a consultation for Wednesday with mu Doctor to discuss possible options. I never knew arthritis was so painful and it really is. Prior to me finding out I was pregnant, I was taking Tramadol and Vicodine and I have to tell you while it relieved some of the pain, there was still quite a bit.

Your welcome. I hope you and your doctor find a medication that is best for you to use. Being in pain even after taking heavy pain killers is horrible, and I'm sorry you are in this predicament. The next nine months are going to be harsh, and I wish you all my luck. :)
