The easiest way to transfer files is to use a flash drive (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=flash+drive&btnG=Search+Images), or if the PC has a cd burner and the laptop has a cd drive, you can do it that way.

If you don't have a flash drive, they're dirt cheap (http://www.microcenter.com/search_results_e.phtml?dropdown_method=keyword&dropdown_keyword=flash+drive&submit2.x=13&submit2.y=12) nowadays; $50 for 1GB and $80 for 2GB, $90 for 4GB...

Another option would be to email files to yourself if you have both the PC and the laptop connected to the internet.

If both machines have ethernet jacks you can get a crossover Ethernet cable and connect that way. If they both have Win XP, you can use the File and Transfer wizard to do this.

You can also get a "File Transfer Cable" to connect via serial, parallel or USB ports.
