Had you paid for a policy on him?
Was he married? If so, did you check with his spouse?
Have you sifted through his belongings/important papers to see if there was any policy info?
Have you checked with his job to see if he had something through work?

I'm sorry for your loss but without any documentation, I don't have any way of knowing if he had a life insurance policy in place. Your best bet is to look through his things to see what you might find.

Normally there has to be some "relationship" to buy a policy, so can I assume you feel the other parent may have had one.
