My 20 year old son is emotionally disabled.. I am his representative payee and responsible for his money. He does not want to live with me and has decided to live with friends in an apartment.. is this legal? Am I responsible for him until he is 21 years old? Can I just pay for the apartment he wants to live in or does he have to remain with me?

Welcome to AMHD. In order to assist in the answering of your question. The state and country would be benifical. Due to laws being different in other places. I do hope you get some answers or assistance with your question though. (I'm just trying to be helpful :D have a wonderful night)

Since he is emotionally disabled, and you are his legal representative, this means he should be under direct care of a mental health professional, have you discussed this with them ?
Also many, at least here, would have a case manager that over sees their medical needs, if there is one, have you discussed this with them
