My small children who are ages 6 and 3 and my husband who is disabled, have been staying in a basement that was provided by a church. Now the have come in a given us a 10 day notice to vacate which will be up on the 15th. We have no where to go and it is way to cold to have my children on the street. I refuse to give my children to someone else. Is there anything legally that can be done to keep us from being on the street. We knew that this was a temp. house and no lease was signed or anything like that, it was just a place to get us back on our feet. I really need help and we can't afford a lawyer.

Even though you pay no rent and have no lease you are legal tenant and the church must follow the law. Tenant Eviction, Eviction Notice and Eviction Process (http://real-estate-law.freeadvice.com/landlord_tenant/eviction-notice-process.htm) They may be ignorant of the law so show them the linked document and tell them that they must now give you a brand new 30 day which starts the day they deloiver it to your hand.
