Has anyone heard of or used the toyota fresh start program?
Our present car is a 1993 Chrysler, has 252,000 miles, many minor things broken, and the engine is starting to have problems. I have been looking to find a better car for my wife to drive, trying to find something decent for $1000 or less so I wouldn't have to borrow for it. I received a letter about a week ago that reads as follows;
S and M Automotive Group has joined with Fresh Start to allow individuals that are still in the bankruptcy process of chapter 7 or chapter 13 to purchase a new or used vehicle. This opportunity not only guarantees lower interest rates, but also the chance to have your credit totally restored in as little as 1 year, even though the bankruptcy has not been discharged. Most of our banks require no money downReaffirmations (the keeping of existing home and car loans) do not reestablish your credit. Many vehicles have too much owed on them or may be mechanically bad. Call as soon as you receive this letter, credit scores are dropping due to the bankruptcy and interest rates are decided by these.

I checked out S and M. They are a legitimate car dealership as best as I can tell. I called the number 3 days ago and applied even though I was and still am very skeptical about this so-called program. Mr Henderson called at 9:30 last night to say I was pre-approved and that only about 1 in 40 get approved. In every conversation I have had with him, he sounds like a pushy car salesman. All of this makes me very much more skeptical than I already was. He says I have to buy a $7,000 to $8,000 car which I really don't want to do, but I just can't spare the cash to buy a cheap car because our house needs a roof, we need a washing machine, etc. I am about 99.99% sure this is just a ripoff, but I do want to find out if it is legitimate. I used to have very good credit until 1 1/2 years ago.
