We were informed when we moved here that we have a gas heat pump. We do purchase fuel from amerigas. It does provide both heating and cooling. However, I notice that our electric bills do increase significantly when the unit is in use. I don't understand this. It seems that we are paying almost double what we should to heat/cool our home.

The above was what the book said. When I went down to look at it, the front of it said it was a Rheem Classic 90 Plus.

Take the front door off the unit and the EXACT model number will be listed on a tag that is required to be on the boiler. No complete EXACT number and I can be of NO help.

When I went down earlier, it looked like the door was screwed on... is that so, or will it just pop off.

I only ask because my father-in-law lives downstairs in in-law quarters and he is in a miserable mood. If I go down prepared, it will take less time and thus decrease the odds of me increasing his agitation.

That Part number you posted is not the model number. I understand your situation. From what I can gather from the part number your furnace is a high efficiency unit and it does burn gas. Now you might have a heat pump system also and those systems are called dual fuel systems. Many items in a home use electric and without you doing a survey of everything that is hooked up and the current draw of each item it is impossible to say what is using the most current.

You might contact your local utility since some of them will come out to the home and do a survey for energy use purposes. They do that in this area so they might do that also in yours. Sorry but that is about all I can do with the info provided.

Ok then. Thank you... but where would I find the model number? I looked and looked, but all I found was the above information... when I open the door, all I saw was ciruitry... and a few things leading into it, one of which had that above information.

Behind the front door of the furnace there is a label with all the necessary furnace information as required by law and the AGA or other national org. Sometimes this is also located on the sides of the unit behind the front door.
