Hello everyone,

Ive had night terror's all my life, and never completley grew out of it. Im now 26. Last night was a rather bad episode, as well as a surprising one, because I haven't had them for a month or so, and it scared the daylights out of my fiancée. When I woke up to see her upset, I honestly had no idea or recollection of waking up screaming, but apparently that's exactly what I did.

A little bit of history on me. When I was little, this was almost a nightly occurrence and my parents dismissed it simply as having bad dreams and they would let it pass. It continued well into adulthood, and never completley stopped. When I was 24, my doctor put me on welbutrin, as there were some very major stresses at a job I was in at the time, as well as a problem I had with depression. The welbutrin actually seemed to reduce the number of night terror's I had in a month, and they seemed to be on the decline.

Lately however, its been getting more and more frequent. Luckily, I have a very understanding wife-to-be who knows this isn't something I can control and don't know I'm doing it. Last night I just caught her off guard. However, id really like to try to deal with this somehow, and see if something might be able to be done to help me. The last thing I want later on is to have my children freaked out because dad is screaming bloody murder in the middle of the night..

Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't done so yet, but I'm going to see my doctor here as soon as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update,

Ive made a doc's appointment for this afternoon, hopefully to at least get pointed in the right direction to get help for this..

I forgot to mention something in my earlier post which I thought I had. Last week, I had a voilent, physical episode during which I physically grabbed my fiancée and pinned her down, demanding to know who she was. She wasn't hurt at all, thank god, and she understood what was happening and isn't angry with me, but I'm scared that if I don't get this under control I might hurt her... and I can't have that.

Has ANYONE else experienced this?

I have had night terrors like this and it was different I would literally walk out of my house and I would get found around my property and I'm only 17 years old but since I was young I had night terrors. I was once put into a physc ward because they were afraid of my "Well being"(bull) I was medicated and they put me on a type of medication I can't remember which was part of the medications job was to suppress memory and other things so that I wouldn't remember the dreams and have them. I have still had them but nothing serious has happened recently.

All I know is I'm afraid I'm going to hurt someone. I was horrified when she told me what id done, even though she emphasized that I hadn't hurt her. She didn't want to tell me initially because of fears that id be upset.

I feel its my responsibility to society to get help. My big worry is I'm going to sleep walk out of the house and hurt some stranger

Well if your going to the doctor your doing the right thing. Talk to the doctor and let them know all of your symptoms and hopefully you can find an answer.

Definitely see your doctor and perhaps a neurologist. Have you thought about counseling to find out what's behind these night terrors. Do you have panic attacks or anxiety. Depression is a big key. Another anti depressant may also help. Wellbutrin isn't a good long term anti depressant. There are several others to try. Ask your doctor about them. Good luck.

What kinds of dreams are you having when this happens? Does it feel like you are awake even though you are asleep?
