View Full Version : 3-way light sockets

I have a lamp that has a light in the semi-transparent base as well as a socket for a 3-way bulb. Both the light in the base and the 3-way socket are controlled by the knob on the socket. There are 3 peripheral contacts on the socket in addition to the central contact.

How do I find another socket - all the 3-way sockets I see in the hdw store just have the 2 peripheral contacts? What do I ask for?

Thanks,

Eric

Never seen one, the turn knob also switches a wire for the lower bulb?

This is called a 3 wire turn knob socket. The ones I've used turn on the top bulb, the "night light" or both together. Perhaps there is one for a 3 way bulb, but good luck on finding it. How old is this lamp? Does the socket have any identifying marks on it?

I think your looking for this based on your description: Lamp Parts, Lighting Parts, and Chandelier parts - Grand Brass Lamp parts and lighting parts Super Store (http://www.grandbrass.com/catalog.cfm?category=Sockets&subcategory=All&STARTROW=179&ANAME=top)

A base with 3 screws.

OK, this is apparently a useless website when it comes to searching. I found about a 3 terminal 3-way socket and a socket with flying leads. Page through the sockets. You can't even search for the item #.

The link has all sorts of stuff.

I'm just a little confused with the post. I have no idea which socket your after or where the switch is?

Leviton 009-7070-pg maybe? On-on-on-off? Maybe not?
