I live in so.cal and I have a 10 month old son and a boyfriend, him and I are both in school, he is 19 and I am about to be 18. We have both been looking for jobs but no luck, my dad is kicking me out when I turn 18 and his mom says we can only stay there for a limited amount of time... up until I turn 18 my dad has been paying for everything for my son and myself, as long as I stayed in school and was at least LOOKING for a job. Well I'm not sure how but id like to get on food stamps or welfare or be able to have assistance in paying rent, I'm not sure if having a son or being in school still affect the chance of me getting on these but id like to know what kind of help is out there for me and how to go about getting that help (basically any type of free money because I'm scared to death of loans and becoming in debt)... thank you

If you accept Public Assistance the County and/or State can and will look to the father of your child for repayment of those benefits.

The only way to know what is available is to go to your local Public Assistance Office and ask now before you and your son are homeless.

Very often one partner has to quit school and go to work while the other finishes school; they then switch places and the second partner works while the first one finishes school.

I am not aware of any totally "free" money.

I am in NY and a lot of taxpayers are very tired of working and footing bills for other people and I see that as a problem for people trying to get assistance now, even though the economy is so bad.

Why is your father asking you to leave? Do you have a child support order in place?

No there is not any free money, you can apply for assistance like rental assitance, food stamps etc, but understand in some states like mine if you receive Tanfa formally callled welfare you will be required to get training for a job and once you get a job you will be required to pay the state back also the state will make the father take responsbility for child support or face jail time. The rules vary from state to state so talk to your social services dept

Hi, lovebird120!

There might be a community action type of agency that could help with certain types of bills and other assistance.

Around where I live, we have what's called Project Now. Below, is the link to them.

Project NOW (http://www.projectnow.org/)

If you contact them, they might know of a similar agency around where you live.

Thanks!
