Hmm, I guess you are referring to the density of the medium through which it is travelling?

For example, light travelling though air is seen to take a straight path.

Light travelling from air to glass (higher density) is observed to change direction if it strikes the glass at an angle between the normal and the critical angle.

Or did you mean something else?
