Hi there,

The problem started this afternoon as the washing machine in the garage was draining causing bubbles to come up through the master toilet. My wife also noticed the water coming up through the drain in the shower which seems to confirm a back up in the line somewhere. Another symptom is that I notice bubbles coming from the master toilet when the hall toilet is flushed. They are very close to each other through a wall (perhaps 10 feet apart). The Master toilet does not overflow, however this is new and I don't want it to get worse. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You do have a blockage and rodding is in order. Do you have a clean out or can you safely rod via the vent stack on the roof?

Yep, ballengerb1 is 100% correct, as are you on your thinking it's a partially plugged drain. You can rent a sewer machine and do it yourself, but I suggest just calling in a pro to take care of it for you. Believe it or not, there is somewhat of a science to correctly cleaning a drain, and the only way to get it completely right is from experience. Knowing what size machine to use, what size bit to use, being able to feel what the cable is doing, knowing when you hit the clog and working that area back and forth to clear area as best as possible, and then knowing how far after that point to auger the drain(so the clog doesn't just go downstream and plug up the system again). Overall, if you feel you can snake the drain by yourself, give it a go and I hope it works out great for you. But if you have the extra cash, call in a pro and have it dealt with quickly and correctly. Good luck and please let us know how things turn out.
