Do I need router to conect a canon pixma mp980 printer with wifi to my wireless laptop

Some wireless printers do allow an "ad hoc" connection, where you can connect directly to the printer. I don't know if that printer supports it.

I would contact Canon tech support to see if its supported and how to set it up.
