Are you going to host the listener slots on your own machine, or have them hosted?

I once had a webstation, and I used a used shoutcast, I have done it both ways, I hosted my own slots, but that was a disaster, then I rented a host. Which do you plan to do?

Keep in mind, that if you have a standard broadband connection, your uplink will probobly only be anough for about 5-10 24k listener slots, and then it will eat up a lot of RAM and of course, all of your bandwidth. Renting a host can be a much less frustrating alternative, and its more affordable than you think.

Renting a host, they give you a host address to webcast to, all you do is set up shoutcast with your admin password, stream to the designated address or IP, then point your listeners to the IP and port provided by the host.

PS: If your streaming music, make sure you are licenced. The RIAA is looking for fish to fry, and the rules are getting strict, that's the biggest reason I got out of it, too much beaurocary for a hobby.
