I have been in prison for 19 years and haven't found a job since I have been home in 6 months. How can I get help to find a job with a conviction?

The economy is tough right now. Even people without any criminal background are having a hard time finding jobs. What kind of employment are you seeking?

Hi, Mr. Dwayne!

Yes, it's really tough for anyone to find a job right now.

What kind of education, job experience, skills and traning do you already have, please? If you let me know about those things, I might have some ideas for you where you could be self-employed.

Also, around where I live and in the Chicago, IL area, there's what's called the Safer Foundation. They help people who've been convicted of crimes to find employment.

If you contact them, they might be able to put you in touch with a similar agency where you're located.

Here is the link for them.

I wish and hope only the best for you!

Thanks!

Yes, keep working with the dept of employment security ( unemployment office) and watch all of the regular places like craigs list and Yahoo jobs and the many other online.

But with unemployment over 10 percent, that means 10 in every 100 people don't have a job. So even college educated people with a perfect record are having trouble.

If your area has day labor places you may want to see about them at least to start.

There are some non profits that do offer some assistance, I know like in Cookeville TN there was a shelter that often helped finding at least day or temp work for many of their residences
