View Full Version : Tax Refund for stay less than 180 days

I have stayed in US less than 5 months. How can I get tax refund. I can here by august15 I am going back to my country by jan18 2010. Whether I need to file 1040nr or w2? Thanks in advance for considering me.

I'm not sure exactly. A W-2 is what you get from your employer showing your wages and tax collected for the year. If you filled out a 1099 when you were hired, then you should receive your W-2 within the next couple of weeks. Once you do, you can go right online and file your tax returns.

I imagine that if your are not eligible, the website will let you know.

The W-2 will be mailed to your address listed on the 1099 unless your employer was told otherwise. If you do file I don't think you're allowed to until January 15th.
