My car has a high pitched screaming when I start it. It goes away after a couple of minutes. I live in Canada and it's very cold. It's worst when it's colder. Any thoughts?

Does it come from the starter motor or from the engine itself? I would only use full-synthetic engine oil, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid, in that part of the world. It is engineered for the cold temperatures of Canada.

Are you sure it is not the belts?
That's the only screech I have ever heard that fits that description.

Your drive belts are worn, loose, or simply stiff and until thing's warm up under the hood, they won't move freely over the pulleys.
Check first belt condition: are they worn beyond adjustment? Heavily glazed or contaminated? Does the adjuster even move?
You will need a good light.
If you aren't sure, have someone give you a second opinion.

Captain Rich is obviously right.
