I'm getting ready to install a new toilet so I just removed my old toilet. But when removing my old toilet, I forgot to take the nuts off the two closet bolts from the base of the toilet. So when I lifted the toilet up, the screws kept the wax and closet flange attached to the bottom of the toilet and not to the drainpipe. Basically I pulled the flange straight off the pipe.
What can I do now that I've taken it off? If I need to get a new replacement, what would you suggest? Or can I use the original flange again? If so, how do I secure it to the pipe? Can I simply slide it back onto top of the drainpipe and then install my new toilet with nothing to worry about? Or does it need to be fused to the pipe somehow?
I already tried using a compression closet flange to put inside of the pipe but I returned it for two reasons I don't know what to do about it:
1. There's a lot of build up on the inside of the drainpipe so it would not go inside. I don't know what to do about the buildup in the drainpipe. Is this something I have to scrape off?
2. On the flange it says to attach to the floor, but if you look at the picture I attached, a lot of the floor has been cut away. I didn't try screwing anything in because I couldn't fit the flange all the way down the pipe anyway because of the buildup. But even then it looked like the screw holes on the flange wouldn't have any flooring underneath them. Should I do something about the flooring?
If the compression closet flange is really what I need though, then I'll go back and buy it.
Here's a picture is of my bathroom floor, showing the drainpipe and the hole around it. I don't know how the flange was before this. But it doesn't look like it was screwed into the floor because so much of the floor has been cut away around the pipe.
