Changed a bathtub into a shower stall so faucet and valve needed to be moved higher. Should it be secured to a brace or stud?

Yes it should. As a rule we secure the supplies with pipe straps,(see image). To the studs. Another way to secure the shower valve is to place a 8" piece of fur strip in front of the valve and then screw the chrome face plate on and let the valve pull up against the face plate. The fur strip keeps the valve held tight to the tile wall. Install the handle and you're vsll set. Good luck, Tom

Look at the first two pages here:
Pipe Hangers and Clamps - Pipe and Tubing - Plumbing - Grainger Industrial Supply (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/pipe-hangers-and-clamps/pipe-and-tubing/plumbing/ecatalog/N-aa3?op=search)
For Hanger plate (page 1) and a split ring hanger (page 2). You can fnd these at Home Depot. Use treaded rod and a nut to lock into place.
It won't go anywhere. Probably will need two.

So...
That's what I secured the one I put in. Also put in 3 unions, so it can be removed in one piece if need be. Worked like a champ.
