A few weeks ago my furnace start blowing cold air instead of warm. I checked the filter and it was dirty so I powered down the furnace and changed the filter. Then powered the furnace back up and it began blowing warm air again. Then tonight I began to get cold, the thermostat was reading 2 degrees lower than it should have been and my vents were blowing cold air again. The filter was still clean so I powered down the furnace again, then powered it back up and voilą... warm air again. What would cause this to happen and why does powering it back up get my heat working again? The furnace is 7 years old.

Look for a status light, and a label with codes & instructions. May be located on inside of front/blower panel.
