How long does an eviction normally take in the state of Florida? I have 5 kids and I recently just lost my job I am not late on rent yet but job offers haven't been flying my way!

Are you renting of do you own the home?

Hello JL:

There isn't any help, really. Maybe your church can help you out. I think the Salvation Army might have a months rent for you...

But, you sound like a good hard working family man. Your landlord MUST realize that, and finding new tenants in today's market is going to be hard for him...

So, you BOTH have an incentive to work things out. But, in order for that to happen, you MUST be in very close communication with your landlord during this crisis.

It might not work, of course, because he may be relying on your rent payment to pay his mortgage... He probably is, but, you got to try.

Well so many things, you said rent, so I will assume rent.

Some landlords you can go talk to and they will work with you for several months. I know here in Atlanta, some have lists of non profits that often help with at least one month rent.

Next check with your local place of worship, that is where first help is often found. Next if you are out of work, go to social services and apply for anything you can get, Sign up for unemployment.

But if you rent from a non caring large company, as soon as you are late ( normally 5 to 10 days) they give you a three day notice, then after that they file in court for eviction. So within 3 weeks from the time you don't pay the rent you could be on the street

Hi, JLGarcia16!

Around where I live, we have an organization that helps with things like that. It's called Project Now. It's a community action agency. Project NOW (http://www.projectnow.org/)

Perhaps there might be a similar organization like that around where you are? If you contact them, they might be able to put you in contact with a similar organization around where you're located.

Thanks!
