Hi, I'm just wondering if I have a case here, or not.

At the beginning of last semester I went to ask about my wife, if she could attend College but without paying International visitor fee's. The lady working there as an advisor/help person told me on three different occasions, "no". She said that my wife has to pay nearly $12,000 in International student fee's in order to enter College. Frustrated, both me and her, we gave up and decided to wait another year until she receives residence and then apply.

Yesterday, I looked into this matter further and found out that the College was wrong. Apparently, there is a law in Canada, Ontario that states:

In the "Ontario Operating Funds Distribution Manual" students who are dependents of a Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada ( 1. dependent (spouse), 2. unmarried child, or 3. spouse's unmarried child ) are exempted from paying the International student fees.

Once this came to my attention, I contancted the College immediately through email and got apologies from the lady that misinformed me, the Executive Director of International Education at the College and the Manager of International Education at the College. They all confirmed that my wife was rejected based on unfounded information.

That's all nice and everything but my wife missed a semester and if we haven't looked into this she would have waited another year for her residency papers and then applied..

I'm just wondering if I have a case here, or not?

Thanks in advance,

Kusko

P.S. How many other in the same situation were most likely rejected by the College?

A case for what, you were not out any money, no one was hurt, and there is no real harm.

Was there an official application submitted with money that was officially refused

No, she didn't apply because we didn't have $12,000. As far as the harm done and the case, my wife could have attended school instead of missing out on a semester.. She already finished her profession back home, worked in the field, so you can imagine that she is very eager to get back on track with her life. Had I not looked into this, she would have waited approximately a year for her residency papers, so that's almost a year and some four months wasted. That aside, how many others were rejected based on the same misinformation? She could be just one of many, so where's the justice for them? Not sure if there's a case there, or not, but you should read their email replies. Three different emails of apologies, and the Manager of International Education even admitted that this is something that they will try their best to avoid in the future. How many people were affected by this prior to them knowing the law that govern's all Instituation's in Ontario? I would think that a reputable Instituation such as this one, #1 College in Ontario; should know stuff like this and not rip people off..
