I am planning to have a drainage system installed in my basement in order to alleviate a water infiltration problem.
Some basement waterprofing companies use a 4" PVC pipe with 2 rows of 1/2 " perforated holes , others use a 4" ABS corrugated pipe with slits on the circunference.
In both cases the pipe is laid on a bed of 1/2 " gravel in a trench dug at the base of the foundation footing
Each company claims that their system is better and that the other one clogs.
Please help me chose the product the best adapted to the problem.

Thanks

Is there a difference in the estimates?
If so how much. Regards, Tom

No significant difference in the estimates between the 2 types of pipes.
Approx $ 9000.00 for approx150 ft of trench through the fllor slab and one or two 1/3 HP (or 0ne 1/2 P) Sump pumps depending on contractor .

My house being close to a bay ,the water table is quite high.
Each time it rains, there are some water infiltrations in the basement at the corner between the foundation walls and the floor slab as well as around the base of some of the pillars supporting the house floor.
What is the best system to remedy this type of problem ?
Thanks in advance

I live in Florida. We used ABS back in the 70's but the hot sun wpould make our drain arms droop so we had to prop them up. PVC held up much better and that's what we've been using ever since.
While this shouldn't affect you I thought I'd pass it on.
Both systems will give you adequate drainage. Go with the estimate that you're most comfortable with. Good luck, Tom

Thanks a lot for your comment Tom,

I live in New York, so no problem with the heat collapsing the ABS pipes.

I just wondered how the PVC pipes can be joined at the corners ,with special elbows? And if it would be advisble to install a clean outaccess to the system .In this case how can a clean out be installed when using a ABS pipe ?
Any idea

Both ABS and PVC use the same type fittings, (elbows, wyes, etc.) and are run the same way. Do you need a cleanout? It all depends. If they do the job right they will terminate the pipes in a dry wel, (see image) and that will definitely call for a clean out on each branch.
